World Anesthesia Day is celebrated annually on October 16 and is considered a professional holiday for anesthesiologists and resuscitators. 
This date was chosen not by chance – it was on October 16, 1846 that the American dentist Thomas Morton performed the first operation under ether anesthesia at a Massachusetts hospital.
At present, modern medicine distinguishes not only general but also local and spinal anesthesia. Drugs and methods of anesthesia are constantly being improved.
