World Thyroid Day

Every year on May 25, many countries around the world celebrate World Thyroid Day. The thyroid gland is a small organ that plays a very important role in the body’s vital functions, namely it produces hormones that regulate metabolism.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), thyroid pathology ranks first among endocrine diseases. In Ukraine, thyroid diseases account for more than 40% of all endocrine diseases.

Fortunately, most thyroid diseases are curable and can often be prevented. This is especially true for diseases that are associated with iodine deficiency. Therefore, one of the tasks of World Thyroid Day is to convey to people information about methods of disease prevention of this organ.
