World Multiple Sclerosis Day

World Multiple Sclerosis Day is celebrated annually on May 30. It was first initiated by the International Federation of Multiple Sclerosis Societies to inform about the problem of multiple sclerosis and to help patients with this disease.

Multiple sclerosis is a disease that affects the brain, optic nerves, spinal cord, which leads to a violation of the relevant functions of the body. The disease was first described by the French physician Jean Cruvelier in 1835.

Currently, the number of people suffering from multiple sclerosis in the world exceeds 2 million people. There are more than 20,000 such patients in Ukraine.

The theme for World Multiple Sclerosis Day 2020-2022 is “Find Your Connections.” This means comprehensive support and improvement of care for patients with multiple sclerosis who feel lonely and socially isolated.

  1. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system.
  2. The age of most patients is from 20 to 50 years.
  3. Women are more prone to this disease than men.
  4. Multiple sclerosis is not a hereditary disease
