International Ophthalmology Day

Starting from August 8, 2004, world celebrates the International Day of Ophthalmology.

The date of this holiday was chosen not occasionally. August 8th is the birthday of a prominent ophthalmic surgeon Svyatoslav Fedorov, who made a significant contribution to the development of world ophthalmology.

Glaucoma remains one of the most common causes of vision loss in the world. This is a dangerous eye disease, which is manifested by periodic or constant increase in intraocular pressure, followed by damage to the optic nerve, which leads to irreversible loss of vision.

Most often the disease develops after 40 years, in 85% of cases in the initial stages it is asymptomatic. To prevent this disease, it is important to be examined annually by an ophthalmologist, in particular, with the measurement of intraocular pressure.

Congratulations to all ophthalmologists on the holiday! We wish them professional growth and good health!
